With the gradual popularization of new energy vehicles, the charging issue has always been a difficult problem that plagues users and the industry. In the early stages of the development of new energy vehicles, the industry generally faced a "three no" dilemma: no charging technology, no charging infrastructure, and no charging standards. However, BYD took the lead in achieving a breakthrough in charging technology from 0 to 1, successfully solving these development problems through independent research and development and innovation. In addition to making breakthroughs in technology, BYD also actively participated in the formulation and promotion of national standards. As one of the first drafting units of China's electric vehicle charging standards, BYD provided a reference template for the national standard AC and DC charging standards. BYD's five pioneering technologies have solved the charging problem, giving Chinese new energy vehicle charging technology a "root."

The charging issue is a focal point that new energy users have always been concerned about, and it is also an important area for BYD in terms of technological innovation and R&D investment. In order to enhance the user's charging experience, BYD has been committed to continuous improvement and innovation.

User pain point 1: Early electric vehicles charge too slowly

BYD pioneered the world's first 800V high-voltage platform and voltage-boosting charging technology

In the early stages of the development of new energy vehicles, in order to improve performance in terms of power, endurance, and charging, and to provide users with a more outstanding electric vehicle experience, breakthroughs in high-voltage technology in the field of electric vehicles are crucial. To achieve this goal, BYD took the lead in 2015 and pioneered the world's first passenger car 800V high-voltage platform, which was successfully applied to models such as Qin EV (2015 model) and Tang DM (2015 model). This technology has reduced the acceleration time of electric vehicles to the 4-second level, increased the pure electric range to 450km, and increased the fast charging power to 60kW, thereby comprehensively improving the user experience. BYD's 800V high-voltage platform has a 2-3 generation lead compared to other passenger cars on the market at that time. At that time, most passenger cars on the market used low-voltage technology, while BYD adopted high-voltage technology. Now, with the development of the industry, more and more companies are starting to enter the field of 800V high-voltage platforms.

Although high-voltage models greatly increase the charging power of electric vehicles, at that time, 95% of the domestic market was low-voltage piles below 500V, which was not compatible with high-voltage models for charging, affecting charging efficiency. To solve this problem, BYD pioneered the world's first voltage-boosting charging technology, completely achieving car-pile compatibility, and fully adapting to all DC charging piles.

User pain point 2: "Fast charging piles" are still too slow

BYD pioneered the world's first dual-gun ultra-fast charging technology for passenger cars, turning public fast charging piles into ultra-fast charging piles in seconds. At present, only 2% of public ultra-charging piles have a current exceeding 300A, while the coverage of fast-charging piles is relatively wide. To make full use of the existing public fast-charging pile resources and avoid users competing for a very small number of ultra-charging piles, BYD has introduced a current-raising solution that is in line with China's charging national conditions. This solution is the world's first dual-gun ultra-charging technology for passenger cars, which can instantly turn public fast-charging piles into ultra-charging piles, achieving short-term multiple energy replenishment and ultra-charging everywhere. Taking the BYD N7 as an example, the dual-gun ultra-charging maximum power can reach 230kW, and only 15 minutes are needed to charge 350 kilometers on the public fast-charging pile.

To ensure that charging is both fast and safe, BYD has pioneered a composite direct cooling technology. This technology achieves a compensatory flow channel design through the design of direct cooling plates on both the upper and lower sides of the battery, as well as two sets of independent refrigerant control systems. This design increases the battery cooling area by 100% and the heat exchange capacity by more than 85%, ensuring the safety of users' ultra-charging.

User pain point 3: Charging difficulties in the north in winter

BYD pioneered the world's first all-scenario intelligent pulse self-heating technology, which can also be fast-charged in the extreme cold of the north.

The temperature in the north is extremely low in winter, and the charging efficiency is greatly affected. To solve this problem, BYD pioneered the all-scenario intelligent pulse self-heating technology, which for the first time in the industry achieved cold car fast charging at extremely low temperatures.

Taking the BYD N7 as an example, under the extremely cold conditions of -30°C, the all-scenario intelligent pulse self-heating technology can significantly improve the battery heating rate, increasing by 230% compared to the traditional scheme. This technology can also reduce the battery full charge time and reduce the charging time by 30%. Therefore, users in the north can also enjoy the fast charging experience in winter.

The all-scenario intelligent pulse self-heating technology can not only self-heat during charging but also intelligently start the self-heating technology in the parking and driving states. This technology can ensure the performance of the whole vehicle at extremely low temperatures and ensure that the vehicle still maintains excellent performance in winter.

Building a charging technology system that is more in line with the current national conditions and continuously upgrading the user's all-scenario charging experience

BYD has successfully solved many problems in the early development of new energy vehicles through independent research and development and innovation. Its five pioneering technologies, including the 800V high-voltage platform, voltage-boosting charging technology, and dual-gun ultra-charging technology, are not only 2-3 generations ahead of the industry in technology, but also solve the pain points of users in practical applications. In the future, with the continuous expansion of the new energy vehicle market and the continuous progress of technology, we have reason to believe that BYD will continue to lead the development trend of the industry and bring users a better charging experience.
